Genocide has been around since day one. Around the world we have all been captured in some type of genocide throughout history. Although, the two genocides that were both as equally terrifying for all hearts around the world were the Holocaust and Cambodia. Both which are similar tragedies but, yet different in various ways.
The Holocaust was a tragedy so powerful that not too long ago people were still celebrating the anniversary of the day the Jews were set free. Cambodia was a tragedy that change the way people think about society today. Although, the Holocaust and cambodia were similar in various ways, for example the way both leaders Hitler and Pol Pot wanted to create an utopia. In, “The History Place, Genocide In The 20th century,” it says, “Throughout Cambodia, deadly purges were conducted to eliminate remnants of the “old society”- the educated, the wealthy, Buddhist monks, police, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and former government officials.” In the memoir, “Night,” Elie Wiesel speaks about the evacuation of all Jews, and how Hitler himself took away their dignity. Once you take away someones home and they don’t even have the chance to take their importance with them, not only are you taking away their dignity but, also you’re taking their life as human beings.
Although, both tragedies were similar they were also different. Coming from two individual sections of the world, religion was treated differently. On one hand Hitler didn’t stop the Jews from reaching to their God and praying. Pol Pot, on the other hand forced policies that religious people weren’t accustomed to. In, “The History Place, Genocide in the 20th Century,” it says, “ Khmer Rouge also forced Muslims to eat pork and shot those who refused.”
Both genocides were formed by man who pursued the dream of perfection. Hitler blamed all of the German problems on the Jewish for an unexplainable reason that till this day is questioned. Meanwhile, Pol Pot wanted the people of his preference to be perfect and live in a perfect society. Genocide itself is putting an end to a determined raice and terminating them. In this case you can’t point fingers at whoever's worst because both Hitler and Pol Pot were savages that weren’t in the right mind state.
In conclusion, the Holocaust and Cambodia will be two unforgettable tragedies that we won’t be able to take back. Both being similar and different in many ways that no one can possibly agree with either. If we had time machines anyone would’ve stopped any of this from occurring. What ever was going through Hitler and Pol Pot’s mind remains unsanitary till this day.
